Casa La Torreta

Really friendly staff and beautiful rooms. I had an amazing stay, and this is now one of the hotels at the top of my list to visit again.

The lack of privacy was what bothered everyone in my group. The host needs to leave guests alone until they ask for her, or until checkout. Going to the door early to check on them, especially while looking through the glass door, feels intrusive. I don't know whether opening the door and going inside, or standing outside watching, is legal, but it feels insulting and shows no trust or respect. Even with the owners living upstairs, this shouldn't happen. We rent cabins several times a year to get together, and we've never experienced anything like it. We can't recommend this cabin. There are plenty of other good options nearby where you won't feel watched. It's a shame, because the house itself is beautiful. I hope these comments are taken as constructive criticism and lead to improvements, but reviews going back as far as five years describe the same issue, so we're not sure anything will change. There were also some practical problems. Access is awkward because the ramp is narrow and very steep, and the parking area only fits two cars. The trash can is far down at the bottom, so taking things out means a long walk. The kitchen light should be raised, since people keep bumping their heads on it. The TV could be upgraded to a Smart TV for YouTube and internet access. Those five things alone wouldn't decide whether we'd rent the place, but the privacy issue did.

Although the house was clean, I wouldn't stay here again because there's no privacy. It's split into three sections, two rented out and one occupied by the owner. There's an internal staircase between her apartment and the rental, separated by glass, and she uses it to get in without permission. She knocks and then opens the door without authorization. The facilities also have problems. The beds were quite uncomfortable, and there's just one bathroom in a house supposedly meant for six people. The extra beds are much too small for an adult and are tucked under the stairs beside that glass partition. We had a barbecue, and smoke came into the kitchen through the extractor fan because it's connected to the grill chimney.

It's a very nice, comfortable place, but privacy is another matter. The hosts live upstairs and walk around the grounds without considering the guests. We rented both the turret and the apartment to have privacy, but felt self-conscious the whole time.
