We spent a few days here as a family. The garden is spacious and pleasant, there's lots of room, and the bathrooms were clean and reasonably well equipped. The hot water came out very hot with good pressure, even when several of us were showering. The house is an old, rustic, stately place, with four bedrooms upstairs and one on the first floor, each with its own bathroom. They're roomy, and many have extra beds. The location is good if you want to get away from it all, unless you happen to be there during the festivals, like we were, when loud music carries on at night. Overall, it's not bad, but it needs a serious facelift. The most difficult issue was the pool. It's badly neglected, the water is cold, there's sand at the entrance, the glass is very dirty, and the knobs are rusty. Some lights don't work and others have loose washers. The sliding doors were locked, so we couldn't open them. The chemicals were so strong that being near the pool was almost unbreathable, and anyone with sensitive skin could come out itching. There's a yellowish band around the pool, and even some white swimsuits turned yellow. The Google photo shows the same pool, but it looks much less run down there. The kitchen is big but needs updating. There were hardly any teaspoons or glasses, no pitchers or serving trays, and some utensils were nearly unusable. The dishwasher didn't clean well, especially on the top rack, and the oven and stovetop were incredibly slow. Some mattresses are old springs that dig into you, the pillows are very soft, and one bedspread had a blood stain. The second floor safety railing was loose and broken, so we had to be careful because it could fall. Floorboards creaked terribly, making it impossible to leave a room quietly. There was dust and lots of cobwebs, and the attic games were incomplete and couldn't be used. On the fourth day, a woman from the neighboring rural house came over and threatened us about parking against the wall, even though another car could easily have fit there. We didn't appreciate that.
The village is pretty and quiet, though there aren't any shops. We were there for a week with ten people, including four children. The house has plenty of space and is nice, but it's very neglected. Upstairs floorboards are loose and all the doors are worn, while the garden chairs are uncomfortable without cushions. The lawn can't really be used because it floods when watered, and the pool is tiny and practically useless. The kitchenware was poor too, with no spoons, knives in terrible shape, and dirty pans. The best part for the children was the playroom with ping pong and foosball. With the lawn and pool out of action, that's about all they had.
We came away feeling completely relaxed after enjoying long conversations by the fireplace and walks nearby. The natural setting is spectacular, and the house lives up to the hype, with lots of space, tasteful decor, and a very practical layout. A truly unforgettable getaway, especially if you need to slow down and breathe some fresh air.
We were there for a family celebration, and the house itself is beautiful, large, rustic, spacious, and well furnished. It's a shame about the cleaning and upkeep. There were cobwebs, dust on the bathroom lamps and wall mounted magnifying mirrors, dirty dishes, an unwashed Italian coffee maker with grounds still in it, and even a piece of fruit under the stairs. The kitchen was just okay. The pool entrance was quite dirty, and some jets worked while others didn't. We reported it, but nobody came to fix anything or even told us what was happening. The house and its lovely garden and pool really need a thorough clean and ongoing maintenance.
The whole weekend was a disaster, and I would never go back. We were 14 people, and the house was filthy and completely neglected. The kitchen was a mess, and the coffee maker, stovetop, and microwave were broken and barely heated anything. Water dripped onto the dining table when someone showered, the electricity kept tripping, and we ran out of hot water. The beds were awful, with springs digging in, and the pillows were dirty. The fire extinguisher was expired. Outside, the garden was full of leaves and debris, the pool was clogged with limescale, and half the chairs were broken. We complained, but the owner ignored everything and offered no solution. A very bad experience.
