Hotel Cueva del Fraile

The pool was a nice bonus, and the drive into Cuenca is short and really pretty. We got upgraded to a lovely room with a great view, and since we went out of season the price was fantastic. The hotel has a lot of atmosphere and a beautiful setting. The staff were very nice too. We loved it and would definitely come back.

The price was the one real plus. The lobby is beautiful, and the hotel must have been lovely in its day, but now it feels old. Our room was dirty, the heating barely worked, and I had to sleep in my clothes. We could also hear a lot through the walls. The staff weren't very friendly either, and smiles seemed in short supply.

We left a day early. The outdoor areas were in poor shape: the mini golf was too dirty and overgrown to use, the volleyball area was weeds, and the basketball court wasn't usable. The tennis and paddle courts looked okay, though they needed cleaning. The pool was still being filled at the end of April, so it wasn't open. Breakfast was cold, with nothing fresh. Our room was spacious, with three twin beds up steep stairs, and the bathroom was large. The shower was the best part of the property. The air conditioner leaked onto the floor, and we had no WiFi. Staff said they'd contacted a technician, but he wasn't due until the next day. Check-in came with no information. The hotel is 10-15 minutes from Cuenca.

We were really impressed by the beautiful location and had delicious food with excellent service. They welcome pets too. What a wonderful place, we'll definitely return.
