Hotel Cienbalcones

We only came to eat, and ended up dining here twice. The food was delicious, the daily menu was great value, and the staff were really friendly.

The room itself was fine: clean, quiet, very spacious, and with a nice courtyard view. The bathroom had a bathtub and enough space, though its layout was odd. The check-in experience was frustrating. We arrived early in the morning, left our bags at reception, and were told check-in started at 14:00. It rained heavily all day, but we went around the sights several times, had lunch in the hotel restaurant, then returned at about 14:30. The receptionist wasn't there. When I phoned, she said I had to wait until 16:00. I think she contacted the restaurant staff, because the waitress who had served us lunch came over and handled check-in. Five stars for that young woman! Given the unusually bad weather, the delay was especially disappointing. I would have expected the person leaving for a four-hour siesta to know that guests would be arriving to check in on time, particularly on such a wet day.

Walking along the city's old walls was brilliant, and the hotel itself was very nice. The location was great, the staff were lovely, and the food was great too. We'd definitely stay again if we're in the area.

I can't recommend this hotel enough. It's a real little gem, with a beautiful, tranquil courtyard, and I honestly don't know why it's only rated three stars. I arrived later than expected, but the staff were very helpful. The restaurant stayed open until 10.30, and the bar was available if I wanted a drink. My third-floor room was a great size and looked out over the courtyard. I'd give it more stars if I could.
