Hotel Chamarel has a warmth and character that newer hotels just can’t reproduce. It’s a charming, distinctive boutique place, with an atmosphere that feels like another era of European decadence. I’ve never stayed anywhere quite like it in Spain. The staff and owners make a real difference. The reception team welcomed me warmly and were attentive and professional. The cleaning team worked quietly and efficiently, and seemed to take pride in the details. Everyone I met helped make the stay comfortable, and the owners are often there to welcome guests too. If you’re in Denia, Spain, and want somewhere out of the ordinary, I’d highly recommend Hotel Chamarel. It’s a gem, and I’m already looking forward to coming back.

I stopped by the hotel for coffee with a friend so I could show them this hidden gem. It was fantastic, as always, with a stylish, quirky feel and a great atmosphere. Raquel, who was fairly new to the team, welcomed us and was enthusiastic, with lots of helpful information about the hotel. She’s a credit to this Denia icon and deserves a mention.

We had a spacious, nicely decorated room with good air conditioning, and the drinks were reasonably priced. The hotel is lively and has a friendly team, right in central Denia with easy access to the train, beach and nearby restaurants. I skipped breakfast because there were so many options around. I’d stay again next time I’m in town.

A relaxing place with a large superior double room, close to bars and restaurants. The hotel has a marvellous, eclectic style. A few things in our room could be better: there wasn’t a comfortable armchair, power points were scarce, and the milk wasn’t replenished. Small fixes would help.

The building is exquisite and full of beautiful artifacts, and the hotel itself is lovely. The rooms are tastefully decorated, right in the old town, with an easy walk to the castle, bars and restaurants. Breakfast was a real letdown. Nothing was replenished, so at 9:30 I had to beg for food. I was only given one cup of coffee and the boiled egg was overcooked, with a green yolk. When I asked for more cheese, the waitress pointed to a small, sweaty piece of Brie and said that was all there was. I felt like a nuisance. The service came across as dismissive and surly. Such a shame, as the place could have made for a great stay.
