Casa Rural Don Álvaro de Luna

We loved how welcoming the owners were, and the hotel feels cozy with lovely decor. The patio and pool made a great spot for eating outdoors, having a drink, or just unwinding. We drove about 20 minutes south of the city to stay here, which worked well for us. Our double room was clean and inviting, and there was a shared sitting and reading room just outside it. Breakfast each morning was delicious, with ham, toast, tomatoes, yogurt, coffee, and fresh orange juice. It was also a relief to return from a day of exploring and know a well-prepared meal was waiting in the salon. A quiet, enjoyable place.

It’s a little out of the way, but that makes for a really peaceful, quiet stay. The service was very friendly, and the food was great. Lovely hotel.

The room change made a real difference. After I explained the noisy air conditioning, Mr. Pepe offered us another room, and it was much better: more spacious, with more effective air conditioning and no bad smell. That helped keep the stay from being even more disappointing, though the hotel still needs to improve its service, breakfast, and facilities. It does have potential. Parking is on the street in front of the house, as shown in my first photo. The problems started at arrival. My wife and I got there about 30 minutes before check-in, rang the outside bell, and a man who didn’t introduce himself told us check-in started at 3:00 PM. He wasn’t very helpful, though he eventually let us in to leave our luggage. Reception felt unfriendly from the outset. The room had a strong moldy smell, was dark, and the mustiness continued after the man turned on the air conditioning. He gave us a laminated sheet with food prices and Wi-Fi details, asked for our documents, left, then came back to return them. The air conditioner later became so loud that we couldn’t relax. When I tried to report it, nobody was at reception, so I had to ring the bell again. Breakfast the next morning was just toast, one slice of cheese, ham, grated tomato, coffee, and juice for each of us. It was nothing special and below what I expected, though a woman who came over was friendly and eased things a little. At checkout, I was surprised to be asked to pay because I thought Booking.com had already processed it. The unclear payment and check-in arrangements caused needless frustration, especially after we’d handed over our documents on arrival.

Pepe made us a generous, delicious breakfast, and the living and dining room was beautiful and inviting. Our room and bathroom were spotless and cozy too. My wife Maribel and I had a fantastic stay. Most of all, thank you to the owners, Pepe and his wife Carmen, for their kindness and wonderful hospitality. We’ll definitely come back.
