Hotel La Casa Grande del Burgo

The building has charm, but the rooms feel dated and are noisy. I've found better places in nearby towns for less money. There aren't many other choices for travelers in El Burgo, unfortunately. I skipped breakfast after reading that it was a basic, overpriced bread-and-tomato meal, with extras costing more.

The owner let us keep our bicycles safely inside, which was kind. We had a spacious, clean, comfortable room. A hotel with lots of character and charm, and a lovely place to spend the night.

We booked a non-smoking stay for three nights and paid the full price. When we arrived in the afternoon, the rooms smelled awful, as if they had been sprayed to cover up smoke. The spray smelled just as bad, and staff were smoking partway outside the door. We asked for a refund. Staff wouldn't help and told us to contact the owner, but wouldn't give us a phone number or email. We tried to reach the owner. We could understand being charged for the first night, but keeping payment for all three nights when we weren't given those nights felt wrong, even under Spanish law. We never got the money back for our two rooms.

We stayed with a Groupon and found the hotel warm and cozy, with helpful, friendly staff. The rooms had traditional decor and were tidy. There's a restaurant for dinner and breakfast; it was okay, though a little expensive to me. The €6 breakfast buffet was a bit sparse.
