The room was the main problem for us. It felt cramped, with a bed that took up so much space we could barely move around, and the bathroom door was right by the head of the bed. We had nowhere to open our luggage except on the bed. If the room had been easier to use, I would have rated the stay higher. There are thoughtful touches in the shared spaces, including flowers and art, and the rooftop terrace has lovely views. Everything was very clean, the kitchen setup with its coffee and espresso machine, fridge and glasses was useful, and breakfast was very nice. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Finding reception on arrival could be confusing. It’s inside what looks like the dining area, and you may have to listen for someone calling you. I saw a couple come in, look around, and leave. By the time I realized I could help, they were gone. A sign pointing out the desk would help.

The location in this lovely seaside town is great, but the room was the worst I’ve ever stayed in. It was tiny and uncomfortable, and the air conditioning was noisy and didn’t work properly. For the price, it’s poor value. It even costs more on the hotel’s own website than on Booking, which I’ve never seen before.

I stayed in a pleasant room with interior windows only, and the bathroom had an excellent shower. There was a TV, air conditioning and good Wi-Fi. The building has poor sound insulation, though, so I could hear what was happening next door. This two-star hotel is in central El Port de la Selva. Check-in is across the street at Hotel Porto Cristo. There’s a kitchen on the ground floor, but its coffee machine wasn’t working and there was no kettle. Upstairs are two terraces with sea views. Breakfast is available at Hotel Porto Cristo for an extra 12 EUR, at the 2019 price. Buses run to Llança, Perelada and Figueres, a few times each day.

The buffet breakfast at Hotel Porto Christo, just 10 meters away, was generous and excellent. The hotel itself was clean and comfortable. Highly recommend it.
