Hotel 4R Gran Europe

The weekend music and dancing gave the place such a fun feel, and it’s right by the sea. We’ve stayed here twice and are already hoping to return. Paula and Julia were wonderful, as were the waiters. Paula at reception was especially sweet, attentive, cheerful, and helpful. The breakfast and dinner were ridiculously good, and I’m French, so you can trust me on that! Our little furry companions were welcome too. Thank you all so much for making our romantic getaway magical. Muchas gracias a todos! Hasta muy pronto!

The area is beautiful, our room was clean and well kept, the food was good, and most of the staff were warm and friendly. A few people working at the bar, though, acted so unprofessionally that my friend and I felt singled out and uncomfortable. It saddens me to leave such a negative review when the rest of our trip was so good and the other staff were lovely, but those bar staff made the last few days unpleasant, and I want to warn others who might face the same treatment. We’d only just turned 18, and this was our first trip away from home, so we already felt vulnerable. At the bar, staff repeatedly asked if we were a lesbian couple, and each time we said we weren’t. One time, a staff member followed us outside and watched us for a while, seemingly to see how we’d react. What might have started as banter felt like harassment. We were also made to order in Spanish, which I didn’t mind on its own, but other guests kept ordering in English. That added to how excluded we felt. It seemed clear to us that they were suggesting there was something shameful about being gay. I doubt this would have happened if we’d been older or if we’d been men. I work in a cafe, and I’d never mock or exclude a customer like that. We paid the same as everyone else, and it was a very expensive holiday for us that used up our savings, yet we got very different treatment. It was unprofessional and unacceptable, and it doesn’t fit the hotel’s Google description as LGBTQ+ friendly. My friend and I weren’t a couple, but I’d advise LGBTQ+ visitors to be cautious. Thank you for apologizing for what happened. After talking it over, my friend and I would need confirmation that an investigation has taken place and steps have been put in place to stop this happening again before we could feel comfortable staying here or recommending the hotel. We also feel some financial compensation would be appropriate, since the service fell below what we expected.

We picked this place because dogs are allowed. The hotel was great, the room was tidy, and it was very clean. Breakfast had plenty of choice.

The meals were way better than we expected, and the bar staff were a lot of fun. The hotel itself is amazing, though the rooms were on the small side.
