Hotel Port Salins by Pierre & Vacances

I booked for friends who couldn’t make it because of illness. I went to the hotel in person and asked to move the booking to the following weekend, offering to pay the difference. The manager wasn’t helpful and wouldn’t speak to me directly, only to the receptionist. In the end she told me to submit a complaint online. I still haven’t had a reply.

The rooms were spotless, the beds unbelievably comfortable, and the view was breathtaking. We ate dinner in the restaurant and really enjoyed it: plenty of choices and amazing presentation. Breakfast the next morning was great too, with lots to choose from, from fruit to pastries, and a lovely view with our coffee. It was our first time in Empuriabrava and we weren’t sure what to expect. The staff were helpful and knew the area, and even connected us with a great boat rental place. The location is perfect for exploring town on foot or heading to the beach. I’d happily recommend staying here.

Breakfast and the staff were superb, and it’s still a great place to stay. The rooftop area doesn’t open until 6 pm, and parking means finding a spot on the street. Our room looked quite tired, even though the season was ending, which took away from the high-end feel we’d expected. A few simple changes could make it five stars. Don’t let the photos put you off.

This was honestly one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in, especially for the price they charge for such an old, dirty place. The rooms are dated and weren’t clean. My first room was dirty and had black mold. When I pointed out that this wasn’t normal, they looked at me as if I’d said something bizarre. The replacement room had even more mold, and there was poop from the previous guests in the toilet. We checked out the next day. Nobody at reception apologized or seemed interested. They either don’t care about hygiene or don’t understand it.
