La Parada del Cid

The food made the wait worthwhile. We had pickled salad and grilled turbot, and the turbot was absolutely delicious. We had it with claret wine. The restaurant is in a beautiful spot near the La Yecla Gorge and Caleruega. We arrived without a reservation, and although only 6 or 7 tables were occupied and there were tables free, the staff were extremely busy. It took about 30 minutes to get us seated at a table for two.

We left unhappy with the meal. The seasonal grilled vegetables were a disaster: the tomatoes were cooked rather than grilled, with big mushy slices, the asparagus was mushy too, and the peppers looked like they'd been cut for a salad. That dish felt like a rip-off. The place itself was pleasant, but the food was a problem, at least that dish. Roquesan Roble was the worst Ribera del Duero I've ever tasted. The restaurant isn't entirely to blame for putting such a bad wine on the menu, though.

We only stopped in for coffee after lunch, and they were really friendly. The service was excellent, and we had the whole lounge to ourselves.

The manager was very friendly, and so was our waiter. Most of the food was good, though I wouldn't recommend the cheese or ham portions because of their low quality. Portions were very small for the price, apart from dessert, which was generous, though not homemade. We ate there today, but we won't be back, even though we visit the area quite often. They charged us for bread we hadn't ordered, and it wasn't listed on the menu. They tried to make this seem normal, saying it was normal because we didn't want to file a complaint. But if we had complained, they would have ruled in our favor. If an item isn't listed with a price and we didn't order it, they shouldn't charge for it.
