Ona Valle Romano Golf & Resort

We were supposed to be celebrating our engagement and enjoying one of our last trips together before our baby arrives. Instead, we spent the evening stressed, disgusted and scrambling to find somewhere else to sleep. We stayed in the room for about five minutes before leaving. It was dirty, damp and smelled awful, and we found three cockroaches in the bathroom and two on the bed. My fiancé is pregnant and has an extreme fear of insects, so seeing them left her shaken and scared to sit down. When we switched on the air conditioning, we both started coughing almost immediately and the smell got stronger. I couldn't let her stay somewhere that felt damp, dirty, infested and unsafe. The room looked nothing like the clean, comfortable golf resort shown and described online. I wouldn't have booked if I'd known what it was like. We went straight to reception and explained everything, and management said they would issue a full refund. But the receipt didn't match what I'd paid, and the payment details didn't seem to match my card or booking. I only noticed later, when I checked my bank and saw no refund had arrived. I was out of pocket and had to chase a refund that had apparently been processed incorrectly. Because we had to leave right away, I booked another hotel at the last minute that same day so my pregnant fiancé would have somewhere clean and safe. It was a busy period, so the last-minute booking cost far more than it would have if we'd been able to plan. That extra expense came from this hotel failing to provide the basic standard it advertised. The whole trip was ruined. I work in the professional golf industry and have stayed in plenty of hotels for events. I know no hotel is perfect, and I don't usually write reviews like this, but this was beyond acceptable. Cockroaches in the bathroom are bad enough. On the bed is unforgivable. A dirty, damp room, a smell that worsened with the air conditioning, a pregnant guest coughing, and then a badly handled refund. The experience was shocking from start to finish. I'd warn anyone thinking of staying here to be very careful. Our experience was nowhere near what was advertised, and the way they handled things afterward made it worse.
