Albergue San Nicolas

The food was a real plus: the pilgrim kitchen is well equipped, dinner has more protein than usual and comes with a nice dessert, and breakfast is in a paper bag with coffee from a machine. The outdoor lounge is a nice spot to unwind, and there's a washer and dryer, though no spin dryer for hand-washed clothes. Rooms and bathrooms were clean and in good condition. The wooden bunks felt sturdy and comfortable, but there were no cloth sheets. Hand soap was provided, while towels weren't, and outlets were limited as usual. Next door, a fellow pilgrim runs a small shop serving food and drinks, and there are good restaurants nearby. Friendly staff and solid facilities, I'd happily stay again.

Dinner had plenty of meat, which I liked, but I'd probably skip breakfast. It didn't feel worth the 5 euros. The albergue itself was great, with comfortable rooms, good food, a washer and dryer, and bathrooms shared by only about four people each.

The owners went far beyond what you'd expect for pilgrims. They took me to the after hours doctors, then to the hospital, stayed to make sure I was okay, and checked on me the next day. They really are Camino angels. The hostel is calm, very clean and comfortable, and there's quality coffee for a euro. Across the road is a great little shop with lots of vegetarian options.

After the long walk from Roncesvalles, I really appreciated the warm welcome, private shower, and comfortable bed. Having a washer/dryer was handy, and playing with the hosts’ adorable dog was a bonus. Be sure to stop by Oliver at the grocery store across the street.
