I arrived at 12:30 a.m. after hiking from France into Spain over Port d'Aula and getting my timing wrong. The receptionist had stayed up to wait for me, which was a huge relief and incredibly kind. Hostal Vall d'Àneu also has high-quality rooms, and the breakfast served across the road in the morning was amazing. I can't praise the service and hospitality enough. I'd definitely recommend staying here in Esterri d'Àneu.

For a trekking weekend, this was just what I wanted: a quiet, clean hotel near Aiguestortes park, with an amazing shower and a balcony.

It's a family-run, low-key place, and they do their best to make you feel at home. The restaurant is top-notch, and I liked that they welcome pets. There are often sweet dogs lounging by the entrance in the area or bar. My room was a little small and smelly, but it was good value and not too far from the Bonaigua ski slopes.

The restaurant across from the hotel, which is part of it, was very good. The internet didn't work, and the rooms on one side of the building were hot.

The continental breakfast was excellent, and my four-year-old son enjoyed the small playground. Our room was a good size and had a king-size bed. The service, though, was poor: the front desk was rarely staffed, and we got no tourist information when we asked. We had booked with parking included, but when the lot was full, they had no answer for us.
