Hotel Anhel

We spent nine nights at Anhel and would happily come back. It’s well placed for exploring Ferreries and getting around by bus. Our room had an en-suite bathroom with an easy-to-use shower, and was cleaned immaculately each day. Fresh towels and bedding were provided daily, too. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel’s traditional decor was lovely, and having tea-making facilities and snacks was a nice extra. A fantastic, good-value stay.

Eva, the owner, was amazing and always available to help. The room looked just like the pictures, and it was peaceful throughout the hotel. We slept so well in the comfy bed, and the air conditioning worked great. The shower was huge. There’s a supermarket, taxi stand, and bus stop very close by. Breakfast was all fresh and delicious finger food. We loved our stay and would absolutely recommend it.

Parking can be tricky right in the center of Ferreries, at Plaza de España. Eva suggested leaving the car outside the cemetery. It sounds a little odd, but it worked well, and it’s only a few minutes’ walk away. Ferreries itself doesn’t have any particular attractions, though it’s close to some of Menorca’s best beaches, including Cala Galdana, Cala Mitjana, and Macarella. The breakfast is simple and mostly made with Menorca products. I did expect orange juice made from fresh oranges in Spain. There’s also a lovely Menorca guide in French in the breakfast room, “Minorque, une promenade sur l'île”. It has lots of photos, so it’s useful even if you don’t speak French. The hotel has been operating since March 2019 and is nicely decorated. Eva is very kind and a great host, even if she isn’t a professional hotelier yet, and her husband Juanjo is part of the team. There isn’t a reception open around the clock, so you need to let them know your arrival time in advance. They then send instructions for getting into the building and your room, using codes and a padlock for the keys. A few small things could improve the stay. You have to insert and turn the key in a sort of power outlet to activate the room’s electricity, and I found it confusing, though maybe I just wasn’t good at it. There’s no safe, which isn’t a big deal, but there’s also no mini-fridge, which could be a serious downside. A full-length mirror would be helpful. The insulated windows were appreciated because the square can get noisy early in the morning, but I found the pillow too soft. Wi-Fi was strong and the air conditioning worked well. Recommended.
