Parador de Ferrol

The first impression was spoiled by a surly gentleman who greeted us and showed us downstairs. He kept rolling his eyes and was unfriendly, which felt especially unwelcoming as this was our first Camino. Apart from that, it’s a beautiful historic hotel by the port, with spacious, very clean rooms and a great breakfast.

Breakfast service was the part I didn’t enjoy. They try to make it personal by having the waitress ask what you want, like eggs or bacon, but she’s alone in the room doing everything and has to rush around. That makes it hard to have a relaxed meal. I’d much rather have a full buffet and staff checking that everything is stocked. The parador is well maintained, and its old-fashioned decor suits the building. My room had a great view of the Naval Military Academy and its ships in the harbor.

We held our wedding at the Parador, and many of our guests stayed there too. They came from all over, including families with young kids, older guests, people traveling alone, guests with limited mobility, and plenty who didn’t speak Spanish. Everyone was looked after so well. The staff were also incredibly capable with the event planning, especially with complicated dietary restrictions. The hotel itself made for a wonderful stay. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the food was always outstanding, the kind of meals you remember for years. It has a distinctive regional character while still offering the comforts of a high-quality hotel. It’s a lovely base for exploring Ferrol and the surrounding area, with a beautiful setting and a competent team. I can’t recommend it enough.

We stayed here the night before setting off on our Camino. It’s a lovely parador in a great location. We chose the smallest rooms since we didn’t need anything fancy, and they suited us fine. It has an old-school feel, with big metal keys for locking and unlocking the doors instead of key cards. There’s a wide choice of food and drinks at breakfast. Highly recommend it.
