Mar de Fora

Waking up to the sunrise over monte pindo was great, but the best thing was the shower. Strong, warm water, just what I needed after a long walk. Everything I needed, really. Such a friendly hostel and super clean. I think it’s the best place in fisterra.

I had a nice stay in the four-bed dorm. The staff were so kind and helpful, the showers were hot, and there’s free tea at reception. No curfew, either!

We came to Fisterra hoping to catch the San Juan Festival, but only realized an hour before it started that it was being held in another village, 8km from town. The innkeeper kindly offered to drive us there and didn’t accept any extra payment. On a different occasion, he lent me his spare phone adaptor when I needed one. We were really touched by his warmth and kindness. We’d only booked one night, but the good service convinced us to extend our stay for another night. After the Camino de Santiago, we needed a good rest, and we felt there was no better place than Pensión Albegue Mar De Fora. The kitchen is well equipped, the toilets and showers are clean, and there’s a huge laundry area plus a small pool where you can soak and pass the time. The room gets a lovely sea breeze through its well-positioned windows.

The owner was nice, but he didn’t speak any English. I stayed for two nights, and on the second I was sharing the place with just one other woman. For a hostel, the beds, showers, and kitchen were okay, though they could’ve been a little better.
