We had a covered pitch, which kept things lovely and cool, and there’s an option to have your own private bathroom. The shared facilities were fine too. Our caravan and car fitted comfortably on the good-sized pitch, with room left for a table and chairs. Since we were camping in May, the site was quiet and not busy. The thermal pools sit at around 34 degrees, with lots of jacuzzi spots and excellent massage jets. Fortuna has a good Consum for groceries and a camping shop for repairs. Murcia is about a 30-minute drive. A bread van comes around daily at 8:30-9.

We left after two nights, though we'd expected to stay five. The pitch was okay, but the site felt overpriced and overrated. It was like public spa swimming baths and only needed a wave machine. The cheap plastic sunbeds and chairs were everywhere, with no sign of luxury. The eating areas were dirty and smoky, with full ashtrays, and campers had to share the sea of sunbeds with the public.

We had a really good day using a day ticket for the hot pools. There’s a restaurant and snack bar on site, along with plenty of toilets and changing rooms, and we were very pleased with the pools.

The local town looked very pretty and worth visiting, but we stayed just one night before moving on. The site is fairly expensive, at €39 a night, plus the €3 we paid for a private bathroom. We chose a pitch with its own bathroom, which had a clean toilet, sink and shower, one toilet roll, good water pressure and adjustable temperature. Showering with the mop and bucket was a bit awkward 😁, and the door was frosted glass. The pitches sit around a block and are quite spacious, though they don't offer much privacy. Our first impression was of a faded, dated commercial campsite. It took ages to find reception. I eventually rang the bell and was directed along the green floor, past the bar and canteen, to the reception by a swimming pool. The person at reception was very helpful and spoke excellent English, which I appreciated. We struggled to find drinking water. The map showed places to look, but every one we found had a sign saying “no potable agua,” which we understood as not drinking water. Maybe we got the translation wrong. Luckily we had enough water in the van. The on-site supermarket was closed, but a van visits at 9 am daily, or you can get bread from the restaurant. The bread and cakes were delicious and reasonably priced. There are lots of indoor and outdoor pools, but we couldn't use them because we had a dog and couldn't leave her in the van. There’s also a small, basic bar with a few tables and chairs, a restaurant, a social area and an outdoor seating area, all within the reception space. These areas also looked old and dated. We like to hike straight from a site, but there wasn't much nearby unless we drove out, which we didn't want to do. There was a rough dog-walking area just outside the campsite, enough for morning and evening walks.

Book ahead, as it gets very busy, but this place is well worth a visit. The pitches are tight, as they tend to be in Spain, but the facilities are clean and tidy. The restaurant is basic, with really nice food at very low prices. Drinks are cheap too, a pint and a large glass of Vino cost €5. The spa is €7.50 and you can use it all day. Some people complain that it's extra on top of the pitch, but with the pitch at €17, the total is still much cheaper than a touring site in England. It's also a lot hotter here than the UK in January.
