Warning! The apartment smelled like a sewer, there was a construction site 30 meters away, and the neighbor’s dog barked itself hoarse. We complained, but the owner came over and basically said we were the problem. There was no attempt to compromise. Typical Canarian stubbornness. We filed a complaint, and he was very nice. Really. He put us in touch with the landlord, an older gentleman, who finally showed up at 8 a.m. He claimed he’d been waiting for us all day. I explained what was going on, and he denied it. I even offered to go with him to the family next door and talk about their noisy dog, but he refused. He said it was difficult to knock on their door at 8 a.m. Yet apparently it was fine for the dog to bark at our place at 8 a.m. He kept coming back to the same excuse: “It’s never been a problem before, and we can leave if we want. He has 28 bungalows, and our hearing must be too good.” I told him that wasn’t good complaint management. We’re his customers, but he put the neighbors first and didn’t care what we said or thought. We’re a lot of money, and we’d be gone in two weeks. We explained everything, but he ran out of arguments. We’d even made videos of the dogs barking constantly at night, and that didn’t bother him either.
