Hostal Jomarijo

Our room had its own bathroom and two separate beds, one a little larger than the other. The beds were okay, though not especially comfortable. There was shampoo but no soap or body wash, and we could hear some noise because the doors are so close together. Overall, it was fine.

The only real letdown was that the pool doesn't open until mid-June. I stayed in May and had booked partly because there was a pool, though being just five minutes from the beach meant it didn't ruin my holiday. The staff were friendly, and the place was very clean. They speak Spanish, which makes sense in Spain. It's good value on a budget, and I'd definitely return.

The hostel was neat and clean, but I can't recommend it. We didn't feel welcome at check-in, with no smiles or greeting, and staff didn't address the noise from the room next door at night. At 7 p.m. we were told off for speaking loudly in the living area. I poured 2 dl of water into the enclosed courtyard from the balcony and got an aggressive response. Also, be careful sitting on the edge of the bed, as it may tip over.

On my second morning, I switched on the bathroom hair dryer. No air came out, but the motor got red hot, sparked, and gave my hand an electric shock. The holder was dusty and had hair in it. I started feeling light-headed and sweaty, my hand was shaking, and I had to lie down. I still had pins and needles in my fingers later, and didn't feel fully well. I also have a chronic bone condition. I told the manager and showed her photos and video. She said sorry and offered a replacement as I was leaving, but the hazard wasn't dealt with then, and I wasn't moved to another room. After being out for the day, I expected some explanation, but the appliance still hadn't been checked, and the holder was still filthy. I couldn't find anyone to ask. I was told an electrician would come on the day I left, but why wasn't it handled while I was staying there? It didn't look like the first time a hazard had been ignored. When I messaged, I was told I hadn't been unwell because I went to sports, though I never mentioned what I did that day. The manager also said I slammed the door at checkout, but it's heavy and closes automatically. I felt she was minimizing the problem instead of taking responsibility. My further messages have been ignored, and I think they're trying to avoid refunding the rest of my stay. I've asked the General Manager for feedback and heard nothing. I wouldn't recommend a place where guest health and safety doesn't seem to be a priority. Photos attached.
