Juncalillo House

After walking from place to place with a heavy bag, it meant a lot that they responded to our request straight away. We'd ordered dinner and breakfast in advance, and the food was delicious. At Juncalillo house, we arrived in light rain and were glad to come in for a hot shower. Fantastic location, cozy house, and a lovely host. Highly recommended.

There are two Vv. The one we got can't use the parking and has no Internet. It's quite small, with sparse equipment that's not very comfortable for an independent Vv.

We were only there for one night, then luckily found somewhere else farther south. I booked a full week, thinking this was a regular holiday apartment at a slightly higher elevation in a good location. It's really only suitable for mountain hikers or others active in the mountains, and even then I'd say one or two nights at most. I can only warn ordinary holidaymakers away from this place. The listing is completely exaggerated: bathtub? Washing machine? Forget it. The apartment itself was okay but spartan, the bed was unacceptable, and I wouldn't have turned on the "heater" under any circumstances. Getting there by car was frightening. I'd only recommend the drive to someone who isn't afraid of heights and is very experienced on high mountain roads. The roads are extremely narrow, there's rockfall risk, and the steep slope makes parking practically impossible. The entrance isn't obvious, so we drove past it and had no way to turn around. Only a neighbor, the owner's brother, helped us turn around and park, and even then the driveway was terrible. The fear and shock of it all are still with me. The owner didn't take us seriously and downplayed what happened. Google Maps is unreliable there, and the internet often doesn't work at that altitude. They told me I was the first guest to have problems, and that people had been vacationing there with cars or motorcycles for years. Since I didn't know the island, I fell for this booking blunder. My request for a goodwill refund of half the travel price was ignored. I booked this expecting a normal holiday apartment, and it wasn't one.

The apartment was perfect for our hike: quiet, charmingly furnished, very well maintained, well equipped, and with a fantastic view. The hostess was truly lovely, speaking Spanish in a friendly, lively way, and her daughter speaks good English. We were even given breakfast. Thank you!
