Munna Hotel Boutique

Our group had a really good stay. The hotel feels pretty new, like they just bought the furniture, and everyone was polite, kind, and professional. Breakfast was great, and they even let you have coffee in the lobby through the day if you have a meeting. It was peaceful and quiet, and I slept really well. We recommend it, and thanks to Iris for arranging our taxis. The only thing I wasn't keen on was the room heating. It can't be adjusted, just switched on or off, and I wish I could have turned it down from 25c or lower.

Miguel at reception was incredibly helpful and professional, and made the stay even more enjoyable. We were lucky to find this gem after a disappointing stay elsewhere. It's right in the center of Gijón, near the beautiful beaches, with lots of excellent restaurants nearby.

The noise was constant, day and night, and came from inside Munna Hotel Boutique rather than the street. I could hear people in rooms next door and above me, toilets flushing and doors slamming. The cleaning staff were especially loud from 9 AM to 12 PM, talking and dragging heavy furniture. I have a video. A supply closet right beside my room seemed to be a major source of the noise, and I have a photo. I know what city noise is like, but the lack of soundproofing here made it impossible to relax or sleep properly. When I complained, including about being woken by a baby crying at night, the staff acknowledged the problem but didn't offer a real fix. They suggested I move to a smaller room they didn't recommend, or wait for the family with the baby to check out. The baby and parents weren't the issue. The hotel's paper-thin walls and failure to provide a quiet room were. Telling me about another guest's travel plans was unprofessional and showed no concern for my comfort. The service was uneven. The woman who checked me in and out was helpful, but nobody else offered help with luggage, local suggestions, or other services you'd expect at a 4-star hotel. The breakfast room shut at 10:30 AM and stayed closed, leaving only a small couch for the rest of the day. That wasn't a proper common area. Breakfast itself was very poor, not even up to continental standard. It came in inconvenient 30-minute slots, and the single tiny elevator meant long waits to reach the dining area. In Gijón, you can get a good coffee and a pincho for €2.50, much better than what the hotel offers. Staff did keep the food stocked, but there was no option to skip breakfast for a lower room rate. I also found several maintenance and hygiene problems: a visibly stained toilet seat, dead insects on the walls, a hole in the sheets, and a decorative plant sitting in styrofoam. Outlet covers were loose, which felt unsafe. There were two tiny trash cans in my room, and one had a broken foot pedal. The floor had been cleaned badly, with dirt just pushed around. My room wasn't ready when I checked in, despite the daily cleaning from 9 AM to 12 PM. It makes me think cleaning is usually superficial, with a more thorough job only done for a new arrival. The furnishings are basic, and the lack of service, cleanliness, and comfort is completely unacceptable for a hotel claiming to be 4-star. I'd call it 2-star at best. The central location is convenient, but Gijón has much better hotels, hostels, and AirBnB rentals for value and comfort. Other guests I spoke to shared my dissatisfaction. A hostel across the street is also 2-star and has similar sound problems, but it has the same central location and view, just a street with nothing else to look at, for a fraction of the price. It even has a shared kitchen, more useful than this poor breakfast. Save your money and find a place that lives up to its promises.

The rooms are modern and updated, and the parking is right beside the hotel. It's in a very central part of the city, with plenty of places to eat and drink nearby. I recommend the comtienda, a 1min walk away. The staff were friendly and informative. One small annoyance, there's a flashing light in the ceiling that can be distracting when you're trying to sleep.
