Seeing vintage projectors and iconic movie posters gave me a fascinating look at how cinema developed. The Cinema Museum of Girona has an extensive collection of film artifacts and exhibits, and I came away with a deeper appreciation of film as an art form and its cultural importance. It was a really enriching visit.

Our 5-year-old loved the place so much that they wanted to come back the next day. There’s a lot of creativity here, from shadow puppets and zoetropes to optical demonstrations, and the displays are interactive. English descriptions were available for just about everything. Anyone interested in art or science should check it out.

Even if cinema isn’t really your thing, this is a worthwhile stop in Girona for the ticket price. We spent around an hour there, mostly on the 3rd floor, where there are lots of interactive exhibits.

We went early on a weekday, and there seemed to be just one other visitor in the whole museum. It’s easy to see why it has apparently won awards: you get a real sense of how cinema evolved, and it’s great for kids. My one criticism is that the story seems to stop quite abruptly around the 1950's, even though there was plenty more to cover after that. Still, thoroughly recommended, one of the best things to do in Girona.
