Hotel Costabella

The rooms and facilities are very nice, but the dogs barked constantly, seemingly everywhere. If you don’t like pets, I wouldn’t come here. I asked reception for a room that hadn’t had pets, and they confirmed it, but there was plenty of pet hair stuck to my socks when I entered. There weren’t even slippers in the room. Check-in also took far too long: one woman took 30 minutes to check in the three people ahead of me. After a long trip, you want to get help quickly and reach your room. Management should consider not allowing pets and having at least two employees at reception.

Breakfast was delicious and had a really varied spread, and dinner at the restaurant was yummy too. We were grateful to be allowed an early check-in, and the rooms were super comfortable. There are supermarkets nearby, which was handy. We stayed in October and used the hotel as a base to visit other towns in the area. I wouldn’t leave the windows open too long, since a few stink bugs wandered in and we had to catch them. No need to, though, as the AC worked great. We’ll happily be back!

The restaurant was good quality, and the rooms were spacious and comfortable after a full refurbishment. Great value for money. It’s outside the city center, so nights are very quiet.

The pool is small, but lovely, and the terrace was a great place to have a drink or catch some sun. The gym is small too, though fine for a half-hour workout. Our room was superb, with excellent beds and pillows, a decent sound system, a safe, plenty of closet space, a great bathroom and shower, glorious air conditioning, and a shutter that kept it dark. The three nights left us feeling refreshed. The coffee in the room wasn’t topped up and the fridge wasn’t very cold; there also isn’t much around the hotel, but these weren’t real problems. It’s handy for roads and bus stops, and a slow 15-minute walk gets you to the stunning city center. The supermarket up the road was useful for picking up lunch snacks. The hotel and Girona both felt very safe. We were happy to visit on the first Sunday of the month, when museums were free, and we’ve kept happy memories of Hotel Costabella. We’d love to return. From our taxi drop-off, about 15 minutes from the airport, the customer service was great throughout. Reception staff spoke English, luckily for us, and had a good sense of humor. The hotel is well designed, quiet, and small enough that nothing felt stressful. The breakfast buffet did the job, and the honesty bar is a superb idea. Good value too. Thanks to all the staff for looking after us.
