Cueva El Cortijo Gachas

We spent two weeks in cave house 2 with our older cat, who loved it as much as we did. The house is lovely, the setting is ideal, and the pool was just right for cooling off. Every house also has its own BBQ. Mario and Yolanda were attentive hosts, and when we asked to change something, they sorted it out straight away. We’re so grateful for everything 😊

The cave wasn’t very clean: there were bits of food on the glasses and plates, and the bathroom had a slight bad smell. The pool also felt neglected, mediocre, and very small. I was there with my daughter, her partner, and our dog. There are rules guests are expected to follow, but nobody explained them when we booked or when we arrived.

Juan and Juani, the neighbors with their own cave there, were a special part of the stay. They recommended things to do and routes, helped however they could, and became friends. We found them wonderful. The comments saying they watched us and didn’t say hello don’t match our experience; I don’t greet rude or unpleasant people either. We stayed in Cave 1, which was spotless, clearly renovated, charming, and had everything we needed: toaster, kettle, Italian and capsule coffee makers, pots, pans, colanders, microwave, ceramic hob, electric stovetop, iron, and ironing board. There were two bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, good double beds, memory foam pillows, and air conditioning for anyone who gets too hot. Outside, each cave has a private BBQ and a porch-like space with marble tables and benches, parasols, and sun loungers. The grounds were spacious, clean, and well cared for. The pool was refreshing and plenty big for the four caves. It never felt overcrowded, and we could always swim. We brought our dog with no problem. She needed to stay on leash in the shared areas out of respect for other guests, which makes sense, and she could run and play in the huge open soccer field below. Guadix and the nearby villages are at most 10-15 minutes away by car, and the paths around the property were good for walks. Yolanda and Mario’s communication and service were exemplary. They sent directions and suggestions for activities and plans in the area. The whole place exceeded our expectations. We’ll definitely return, many times. Thanks for everything.

The cave stayed cool and was really quiet, and we had a lovely time there. Yoli was unbeatable, and the neighbors were so kind and always ready to help with whatever we needed. We spent two nights in one of the caves. We’ll be back!
