Pensión Alcalá

This is a simple, traditional Spanish guesthouse, and it’s very well looked after. The bathrooms are new and nicely done, the rooms are clean and practical, and the sheets are hotel-like. They answered the phone quickly, explained where I could park on the street and were very friendly. It’s a basic pension, so I think people expecting a 3-4 star hotel are why the score isn’t 9.8.

Dirty, noisy and broken. I saw insects on the floor and the sheets were dirty. It was awful. Never again.

An unbelievably bad stay, the worst hospitality experience I’ve had anywhere in the world. The host was exceedingly rude and unfriendly, the walls were paper thin, and the tiny beds weren’t suitable for adults. The place was cheap, badly mannered and loud, with no facilities and not enough toilets. A disaster, and that’s why the rates are so low. Stay away if you don’t want your hard-earned holiday ruined. I’d rather sleep on the beach than here.

For the price, it’s perfect. The location is wonderful, with the island’s best beaches close by and whatever you need just a short walk away. The host is really helpful. The rooms are simple, as you’d expect, but the sheets and towels are clean. We’ll be back.
