We stayed in the two-bedroom apartment on the first floor from September 17th to October 1st, 2023. The location is fantastic, right by the water, with a boat ramp and lots of little boats on buoys beside the house. The roof terrace has a great view, loungers, a table and chairs for breakfast or meals, and a barbecue. There’s also a toilet and washing machine upstairs. The apartment is spacious enough for four, the bathroom is excellent, and there was always plenty of hot water. Nearby are two natural swimming pools, a well-stocked mini-market, a coffee bar, and two restaurants. Further into town there’s another small supermarket, more restaurants, and snack bars. You hardly notice tourism here, and we felt very comfortable. The service from EscapeHome, which manages and rents the house, was very poor. We booked through Booking.com and told them when we’d arrive, but the two messages we got there showed only the company letterhead. I replied twice to say I couldn’t read anything and asked how to get the key. We flew to Lanzarote hoping someone would be there. On arrival, we found three combination key boxes but had no code. We rang the bell with no answer. I called EscapeHome and got an answering machine saying the office was busy because it was Sunday and to call during office hours. My wife rang several more times in case another guest noticed us. I also tried Booking.com and was put on hold. Luckily, the elderly neighbors noticed us. They were there to clean the house and check on things. After checking our reservation and passports, they opened a key box and gave us our key, so we could finally get in. That lifted our spirits. Then, two days later, on Tuesday, September 19th, EscapeHome emailed the key box code, Wi-Fi password, and an explanation of the house. Very quick, indeed. The kitchen is sparsely equipped, so you have to wash up after each meal or you run short of cutlery and other things. The coffee maker only makes about 2.5 cups, as the photo shows. Four people having breakfast would need tiny cups, which we know is common here, but guests from other countries come too, or they’d have to make coffee more than once. The dining area just fits four, and the two armchairs in the living area suit the terrace better than comfortable sitting in the living room. There were only two of us, so only one bedroom was made up. For some reason they chose the smaller room with the smaller bed. Each guest had just one hand towel and one bath towel, very little for a holiday spot where you want to enjoy the sea. There were also only two rolls of extra-thin toilet paper. No spices, salt, or sugar at all, just an empty menagerie in the kitchen. For stays over 10 days, towels and bed linen are changed halfway through. We still had to email to ask when that would happen before anyone came. The elderly couple who handle it said they only work when EscapeHome commissions them. The apartment’s location and furnishings are actually fine apart from the skimpy kitchen equipment, but EscapeHome’s service is very poor.
