Hotel de la Val

It was nearly 9 p.m. when a mix-up left us without a hotel for the weekend, and someone recommended this place. It was a pleasant surprise and reasonably priced. The people serving us were very friendly, and we really appreciated the service. Breakfast was generous and varied. We loved the town and the location, and will definitely return when we're back in Hecho.

We stayed two nights over the December bank holiday weekend. The hotel is central, has good views, and was a good price. After a long day of snowshoeing, it was a great place to relax. The outside looks a bit dated, in a vintage way 😜😜😜, but the rooms and bathroom were in perfect condition. The lounge is very kitschy and baroque. We'd read some worrying reviews about breakfast, but ours was very good and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and efficient, no complaints at all. We'll be back.

The mattresses and pillows are new and comfortable, which is why I'm giving it 2 stars. The rest was bad. The place is old, with repairs that look poorly done or unfinished, and the reception is neglected. The owner was never there when I went looking for her, so pay the day before if you don't want to delay leaving while you wait for her to show up. It smelled strongly of dog. I haven't been to another pet-friendly place that smelled like this. There were no plugs in the sink or bathtub, so even shaving meant constantly turning the tap on and off. Calling it a hotel seems odd when it feels more like a guesthouse.

Poor value for the service. The bathtub had no plug, so taking a bath wasn't possible, and the TV didn't work. Dinner and breakfast were filling but low quality, including frozen cannelloni. We'd told them when booking about our planned activity, but they wouldn't make us a sandwich instead of the hotel breakfast so we could go. We couldn't pay by card because the card terminal didn't work, just as it hadn't last year.
