El Montero

We spent three nights here for skiing in alto campoo. The couple running the hotel made my family and me feel very welcome, and they couldn’t do enough for us. The rooms were comfortable, and drinks and snacks at the bar were great prices. Thanks so much from all of us.

The setting is so peaceful and idyllic, and it’s conveniently less than an hour from the Santander-Plymouth ferry or 12 minutes from the north-south highway. The staff are as professional as you’d find at a five-star deluxe hotel, but much friendlier. I used to work for The Leading Hotels in The World and thought I’d seen the best of the best. I was wrong. Places like that often cost over 400€ a night, while this one was just 72€. It’s one of the most exquisite places we’ve ever been lucky enough to visit. You simply have to experience this glorious marvel before you die!

Right at the foot of the mountains, this is a handy base for all sorts of activities. The place has a sunny garden and a lovely bar and dining room, all done up in a nice retro-chic style.

We stayed three days for skiing, and at El Montero the owners made us feel thoroughly spoiled. The room was just right for the four of us, with comfortable beds. Good food, the bar, the chimney, the decor, and the owners’ dedication all made the stay memorable.
