Hotel Rural Villa Hermigua

The location is excellent and the building is beautiful, so I hope the place gets staffed and properly running again. For now, I’d book somewhere else. This stay was unpleasant and left us very disappointed. I can only guess that the positive reviews came from before some kind of owner change. The owner or manager, whom we never met, did reply quickly on WhatsApp. When we asked for a heater so the room would be bearable on our second night, one arrived the next morning, which was kind. We also appreciated getting suggestions for a restaurant open on New Year’s. Those were the only kind gestures we experienced. When we arrived, there was no staff at all, and the restaurant that was meant to provide “delicious breakfast” throughout our 5 nights stay, the minimum booking requirement, appeared to be permanently closed. After we contacted Booking.com, we got a refund of 25 euros. That wasn’t enough, especially with shops and almost all restaurants in the village closed over the holidays. The rooms were damp, cold, and frankly dirty. The only staff member we saw was a poor cleaning lady, who came just twice in 5 days for a few hours each time. She was supposed to clean all the hotel rooms, shared kitchen, and common area, which wasn’t sufficient. Everything felt damp and dirty: coffee stains on pillows, hairs in the bathroom, and a general need for a full clean. The room, kitchen, and shared area all needed it. My partner and I both caught a cold from the damp environment. No linen was changed, so our towels stayed damp throughout the stay, and the empty shower soap dispenser was never refilled. There also seems to be a mice problem, judging by the large mouse catcher in the kitchen. Another guest tried to cancel and leave, then was offered breakfast for a price. The owner didn’t share that information with the rest of us.

It's a simple, welcoming place, and above all really peaceful. Parking is easy, which matters to me because I’m here for work with a van.

I really don’t see why this hostel gets positive reviews. Calling it a hotel doesn’t fit. Wi-Fi only reaches rooms on the floor with the router. There’s no fridge or microwave in the rooms. If you want to cook or even make a basic coffee, there is a shared kitchen, and you can store cold things in its shared fridge. For the price, it’s not worth it at all. I hope you read this before deciding to stay.

The sea view from the shared terrace was lovely, but it was very noisy there. Our first room had glass block walls, no windows, and was very cold. The second room was nice, though the drain smelled bad, and the bathroom had no windows or ventilation. Cleanliness was okay, but it wasn’t really cleaned, especially the bathroom, and the place was getting old. The shared kitchen seemed well meant, but one pot and one pan were far too few.
