We booked this place quite last minute for 5 nights, 17/04/2026-22/04/2026, just before leaving for our trip, and paid the full amount upfront. After only two nights, we had to flee and find somewhere else to stay. I never got a refund. We arrived at Casonas de Marengo on the evening of 17/04 and found something very different from what the website photos led us to expect. Please look at the pictures attached to this review before booking. The self check-in directions were unclear, and after some confusion we followed a terrible internal road to a detached house at the back of the property. The area was a mess, with empty bottles and packages scattered around as if someone had held a barbecue and left everything behind. Inside, the air felt damp and smelled awful, like a basement. The place seemed as if it hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. There was no sunlight and no real window, only a roughly 20 by 20 cm slit in the wall that couldn’t be left uncovered because it faced a shared area. Little white flies were all over the bathroom, then came out whenever we opened the door and bothered us while we slept. There were holes in the walls and enormous patches of fungus on the walls and ceilings. I’d never seen anything like it. We had a lot of plans that might otherwise have been ruined, so we somehow got through the first of our five booked nights. We spent the next day away and came back around midnight. That’s when we noticed what finally made us leave. The entire bathroom was coated in white dust from the ceiling fungus area. The ceiling looked like someone had tried to scrape off the awful growth with sandpaper, scattering fungus and dust over our toothbrushes and towels. Nobody had told us someone would enter while we were out or asked us to move our things, and it seemed nobody had even cleaned up afterwards. As soon as I understood what I was seeing, I tried to contact the owners. They claim there’s free WiFi on the premises, but there was no WiFi and no phone signal for a call, so all I could do was send a text. I heard nothing until the morning, by which time we were about to leave after a sleepless night. The person speaking on the owner’s behalf was very unpleasant. They said this was how apartments were supposed to look in this kind of climate, even though the property was clearly run down and didn’t meet the minimum requirements for someone to stay. It should be closed for renovation instead of being listed for rent. They also said that rather than sending an upset message and leaving, I should have contacted them earlier so they could move us to another apartment in the same building. I don’t see how being on the other side of the same fungus-covered wall would have changed anything. They accused me of lying when I said I believed someone had entered our room without our knowledge. But there were clear signs that someone had disturbed the fungus on the ceiling, and fungus and ceiling paint dust were scattered across the bathroom floor and the toothbrushes, towels, and other personal hygiene products we’d unfortunately left in the “bathroom.” Look for somewhere else. This place isn’t worth it.

The apartment is spacious, with a well-equipped kitchen and plenty of hot water for showers. The finca is beautiful, with wooden floors, pitched ceilings, shutters, an outdoor pool, and a great view of Mount Teide. It’s in a very quiet mountain area above Icod, with lots of parking. We arrived after dark, and the lane from the gate to the house felt a bit daunting. It was chilly during our stay, though there were a couple of heaters. The bedding was blankets, which could have been cozier with a duvet. All in all, a lovely, peaceful stay in a beautiful setting.

We left after 2 of our 5 nights, though we should have moved out straight away. We got no refund at all, and the stay ruined our holiday. The room had a terrible smell, high humidity, no sunlight, and fungus everywhere. Someone came in while we were out and tried to remove it from the walls, leaving fungus and paint on our toothbrushes and towels. I strongly do NOT recommend this place.

The weather wasn’t very good, but we still enjoyed every minute of our stay. The views all around the place were wonderful ☺️
