The breakfast buffet was fresh and tasty, with cold meats, cheese, bread, pastries, toast, cereals and fruit, and it was good value at €5.00. The hotel has a lift, and there’s a motorcycle parking bay in sight of the building, which is great for bikers. Free car parking is a five-minute walk away, while nearby street parking is limited to one hour. It’s a lovely period hotel in a brilliant location, with views over the castle and park. The room had a small balcony and table, which was nice. The ensuite bathroom was a bit dated but clean and functional, and the beds were comfortable.

The breakfast was a disaster. I’m not sure they know what fresh food is. The coffee was warm, the sickly sweet unidentifiable juice came only in coffee cups because there were no glasses, and there was just sliced bread plus one stale kind of bread roll. By 8am, the meats and cheeses were almost gone. I gave strong feedback at reception when leaving. The room and view were very good, and the location was stunning and convenient.

The room was adequate, but the bed was very uncomfortable, and we were glad to be staying just one night. We had to ask for towels, as none were supplied. No internet was available, although we’d been told we could get it, and we never managed to sort it out. Plugging our car fridge in fused the lights, and the lights went out several times when we plugged anything in. A guy was sent to fix it but couldn’t. The hotel is in a good position, but the parking area is a long walk away, and nearby parking cost us a lot. All in all, a fairly disastrous stay.

Right by Jaca citadel, the location could hardly be better in the Pearl of the Pyrenees. If you’re a sound sleeper or bring good earplugs, it’s quite an experience. The hotel has lovely old details and a sense of past decadence, like a real-life Spanish Grand Budapest Hotel. But beware if school groups are staying. The walls are paper thin, and during our two nights, unruly schoolkids made tons of noise until 12.30-1am. Mentioning it at reception only got us a shrug. Extraordinary venue, but horrendous when schools are in.

We love Jaca, and this historic hotel adds to each visit. It’s good value, with welcoming staff, and we love its oldness, though it’s not a five-star hotel in the formal sense. The location is perfect, opposite the citadel and parklands on one side and in the old town too. Parking is a bit difficult, but there’s an underground car park just a few minutes’ walk away.
