Hotel Trafalgar

The staff, especially the receptionists, were friendly, polite, and helpful. The bed and towels were clean, which I appreciated. But there was visible dust on the bedside tables, the shower was basic, and the rooms only have the essentials. The TV is small, so don’t expect much entertainment. Breakfast is very limited, particularly if you come from a country or background where people don’t eat pork. Your options will be quite restricted. This is only worth it if you can get a room for under €35 a night, breakfast included. At that price it’s fair value, but don’t expect more than the basics.

Jasmin, the cheerful young woman serving breakfast, was the only excellent person there. The hotel is cheap, and might be better in summer, but after my first night I was still cold because the heating seemed to run for only five minutes an hour. The toilet seat was cracked and caught my skin. I reported it to someone called Felix, but nobody took notice. My room faced a side street, and the noise was horrendous. I gave Trafalgar hotel good scores when Agoda asked on the second day, but that was before the first night’s problems. Jerez is a dead town, and Cadiz isn’t a beautiful place like people say. There’s nothing fancy in that part of Spain. You’d be better off staying in Seville and taking the train to Cadiz for a few hours.

The room was hotter than the 35 degrees outside, and all they offered was a tiny, dusty fan from the top of reception. I’d paid for a room shown with a balcony and AC, but got what was probably the worst room in the hotel, with neither. When I complained at reception, they said they were full and couldn’t do anything that day, but would change my room tomorrow. They didn’t even say sorry. After many stays in Spain, this felt like the biggest disrespect I’ve experienced.

The staff were great, the location very good, and breakfast was tasty. In the bathroom, though, there’s nowhere to put cosmetics except the washbasin, which is inconvenient. There’s also no light by the mirror for putting on makeup or shaving.
