Hostal El Anon

The village sits in beautiful hillside scenery and isn’t very touristy, with friendly locals. We didn’t stay here, but the restaurant is lovely, with good food served inside or on the terrace. There was some confusion about the gluten free menu, as it wasn’t clear whether the items listed contained gluten or were gluten free. The staff checked carefully with the chef, though, and I felt confident my meals were safe.

The atmosphere is relaxed, and the food tasted good, though it was pub-like and not especially inspiring. My first impression was of an expat British pub, which makes sense since the business was started by expat Brits. Lots of the staff speak English, and three expat Brits came up to the bar for afternoon pints while I was there. That also explains why the real estate postings on the square in Jimena are in English.

The restaurant staff are really friendly and the food was delicious. Hostel Anon is a lovely place to relax for a few nights, with lush plants in the center and a rooftop pool. My room was charming, with a very comfortable bed and a rain shower. I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Cádiz.

The terrace has a stunning view, and the surroundings are lovely. Great quality food and drink, with very good service too.
