A good value stay if you’re travelling with pets. We had a room with a new bench and a spacious, newly fitted shower, plus a large, good-quality bed. The room and breakfast for two were included, and with our three dogs the total came to €40. The main drawback is that they don’t serve dinner or anything else after 6 p.m.

We’ve made this restaurant a regular lunch stop on trips between Ayora and Cartagena over the years. The food is consistently good quality and home-style, and the price for what you get is excellent. Service has usually been good, and on our latest visit it was especially warm and friendly. We’ll keep stopping here.

We went as seven for the set menu, and even though it was late in the day, the meal was awful. The grilled squid hadn’t been cleaned, the cod was so dry and tough it couldn’t be eaten, though its sauce was delicious, and the spaghetti was drier than me. It wasn’t cheap either: two full menus and five half menus came to €62. Terrible service and poor food. Never going back.

The owner was so thoughtful and kind, always checking we were comfortable, and our rooms were spotless. Breakfast was included and delicious. The shower was so invigorating it could wake the dead. There’s heating and air conditioning, a TV you can watch from bed, and even rooms for smokers. We’ll be back for sure.
