We ended up eating in the restaurant every night, even though trying whatever they had prepared was outside our usual comfort zone. We enjoyed all the food. The rooms were spotless and cleaned daily, and breakfast on the sunny terrace right outside our room was the best. When my wife's mobility difficulties became clear during the trip, the owners quickly offered us a more suitable room, which made a real difference. They were lovely and attentive throughout. It's a lovely area, different from the traditional Spain we were used to, and we'd gladly visit again.

We felt at home here. The staff were so kind and helpful, and the place was cozy and completely quiet. Our bedroom was comfortable and sparkling clean, with windows looking out over the Delta's orchards, and the bathroom was unusually spacious. Dinner was homemade, tasty and nicely served, mostly using local products, and surprisingly affordable. Breakfast was splendid too, with fruit, orange juice, homemade pastries and marmalade, bread, oil, tomato, eggs, coffee and other choices.

Don't let the first impression put you off. It's part of a working smallholding and a working town, but well worth a visit, with nice drives around the area. We stayed three nights. The food was very good, and I even enjoyed the local white wine despite being a fussy eater. We'd originally been given an upstairs room, but the hosts offered my husband a ground floor room, which was great since I now use a stick. I'd been fit when we booked.

We were glad another hotel in L'Ampolla turned us away over our dog's size, since we found a real gem instead. We booked Mas Masdeu online and arrived within half an hour; everything fell into place. The countryside setting suited us and our pooch, and our bedroom was in a separate building with three beds and a shower big enough for a party. The lady of the house brought us a delicious evening meal outside our room. A last-minute booking that worked out wonderfully.

We had a wonderful stay, and I'd recommend it for families with children too. We were there with our two-year-old.
