Hotel Avenida Coruña

The breakfast was really good, especially the eggs made fresh and served hot, unlike most buffets. There’s also a small, very private spa. The hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk from the train station.

The sauna and hot tub can be booked cheaply for an hour. They’re basic, but we found it a lovely way to unwind mid-trip. Breakfast costs extra, though guests get a discount. The buffet was excellent, with nicely hot scrambled eggs, and nearby options are fairly limited. Dinner was tasty and reasonably priced, with long opening hours, though the menu itself was nothing special. We came by late train and chose this hotel because it’s close to both the train and bus stations. It turned out to be a lucky find: attractive decor, clean rooms of a decent size, helpful staff, and long reception hours. The hotel was surprisingly quiet despite the motorway nearby. Its location isn’t especially interesting, and the walk to town attractions is long and mostly dull. Buses to the sights run fairly often from the top of the hill, once you’ve figured out the routes and times. The hill up from the stations is steep, too. Our room price was higher than most places we stayed, but if we return to A Coruña, we’d stay here again.

We stopped here for the night before setting off on the Camino. The reception team were very friendly, helpful, and spoke good English. Our room was clean and well equipped. Breakfast was the expected buffet, with a choice of scrambled eggs or a toasted ham and cheese sandwich.

Breakfast was good, and the location is convenient, but the room fell short of what we expected. The AC didn’t work, and the fan they gave us after we complained didn’t work well either. Why assign a room if the equipment isn’t working? The bathtub also leaked. Maybe it just wasn’t my day.
