Akinon Resort

We’ve just come back from four nights at this little gem and wanted to share how it went, even though we don’t usually leave reviews. The outdoor areas and surroundings are lovely, and the staff were welcoming and helpful from the moment we arrived. Nothing seemed like too much trouble. Thanks to all the resort staff, we’ll definitely be back.

The hotel grounds are huge, with a kids’ playground and large indoor and outdoor pools. There are lots of different spa rooms too. We liked the apartments with kitchens, and the staff were very friendly. A really nice, very big hotel and spa.

Please visit before booking. Once they have your money, they DON'T GIVE REFUNDS. My friend has COPD and can't manage stairs for health reasons, and this place wasn't suitable. There are several flights of outdoor stairs just to reach reception, then more to get to the rooms. The mobility scooter hire shops told us the area isn't suitable for scooters and wouldn't rent one to us here. The room had no English TV channels, only basic Spanish ones, and there was no wardrobe, so we had to live out of our suitcases. There was only a small table where we might have put them. The bathroom smelled of drains, and there were no cooking utensils. There was a dishwasher that looked as if it had never been used, and we wondered why that space couldn't have been put to something more useful. The place is miles from anywhere, with no nearby bus service. You’re left with taxis, which could cost over €40 for a return trip from Albir, more from Benidorm, or a very long walk if you want to go out for a drink. We had to find somewhere closer to Albir with fewer stairs. The managers said they don't give refunds, which I’m sure many visitors only learn after discovering the place doesn’t suit them. We lost €500 after booking on a smartphone, where we may not have seen the information about the many stairs we’d need to climb daily. The setting is stunning, and the staff were first class. The restaurant is expensive, though, and you need a car because there’s nowhere within walking distance. Still, a good stay.
