Alua Suites Fuerteventura — All inclusive

We had such a fantastic holiday that we've already booked again for next year. The room was spacious, the food was fantastic, and every staff member was incredibly friendly and hardworking. There's plenty going on around the main pool, while the pool near the gym is quieter. The hotel is a little way from the center, but taxis are reasonably priced and the walk along the beach is quite pleasant.

The hotel wasn't the platinum venue we'd been told to expect before leaving the UK. It would've helped if reception had explained the app for things like sheet changes and the pillow menu. Our room was large and the bed was good. The sofa bed was comfortable too, but really needs updating. Food wasn't great. There was a good choice if you like meat and fish, but not much for vegetarians. It could've been hotter, and the plates should've been warm, otherwise you end up eating cold food. We upgraded to the my favourite club, but the only good part was the gated adults-only area. I wouldn't recommend paying for the upgrade, as it wasn't anything special. All-inclusive drinks were disappointing, with only wine, beer, a limited cocktail selection, and soft drinks. Drinks stopped at 11 p.m., after which you had to pay, and most of the day there were no bars open. There wasn't any daytime entertainment. The evening shows were good but limited, mostly starting around 9 p.m. and finishing at about 11 p.m. The staff at the spot bar were lovely, and the restaurant staff were friendly. The adults-only restaurant had very limited options, especially if you have a fussy eater. Public areas were poor, as the photos show. In our room, electrical sockets were coming away from the walls, the air-conditioning didn't work, and the TV was hard to use and had to be retuned every time. The shopping area was easy to reach and had plenty of places to eat. I'd highly recommend Lotusun for good, fresh, hot food.

We were well placed for walking to both the dunes and town, and the gardens were immaculate. Our one-bedroom suite was roomy, with a huge bed and lovely pillows. The sunny garden terrace was great, though some terraces are shaded. Reception and cleaning staff were really helpful. Breakfast was good, and the salads were great, but the rest of the food got repetitive and was usually lukewarm. We could have paid an extra £18 per person per night for My Favourite Club, but it didn’t seem to offer enough since we couldn’t change rooms. We had to get our water from a local supermarket.

The animation team really made this holiday special for me. I told them I was pregnant and couldn’t take part in water polo or volleyball, and they were so accommodating, encouraging me to join in with exercises that suited me. They also made sure we felt included in activities and checked that we were having a good time when we sat out. The evening entertainment was superb, with different shows and lots of talent each night. Our two-bedroom suite was spacious, kept clean, and had fresh towels every day. There was plenty of choice in the main restaurant and the food was good. The snack bar menu could use more variety, though, as burgers and pasta every day weren’t what I wanted.
