Hostel Tenerife

I ended up leaving early, even though I'd booked four nights, and lost the prepaid nights while paying extra for somewhere else. I tried to leave without a confrontation, but the host still made comments I found inappropriate. I've stayed in all kinds of hostels across more than 40 countries, and this was among the least satisfactory. During nearly two weeks on Tenerife, my other stays were consistently professional and positive. I'd book somewhere else and spare yourself the stress. The facilities need attention. The building seemed old and in need of renovation, the bathrooms weren't properly maintained, and the dorm had a powerful smell like vomit mixed with chlorine. The window in my room was hard to open. Three guests tried without managing it, so airing out the room was difficult. I also saw a bed reassigned after a guest left without the linens being changed. I had trouble with the host and management throughout my stay. On both nights, late entries into the shared dorm disturbed my sleep and disregarded guests' privacy. On the first night, two people were checked in after another guest and I had gone to sleep, despite the stated 9:00 p.m. latest check-in. Around midnight on the second night, the host came in with two guests, went out, then came back when he realized there wasn't a free bed. He took sheets off a dorm bed to use in another room, while people were sleeping, which suggested there weren't enough clean sheets. When I raised the nighttime interruptions later, the host laughed and told me I should book a private room. The manager also brushed off what I'd experienced and minimized my concerns. Their responses left me with the impression that they considered interrupted sleep and a lack of privacy acceptable in a shared room simply because it was a hostel. Other guests seemed uneasy about speaking up. One didn't want to report that a blocked shower drain caused water to collect while showering, and another was too scared to ask for a clean towel. At check-in, the host insisted on photographing my passport. He sends passport or ID photos through WhatsApp to an unknown recipient, which worried me about how personal information was handled and seemed unprofessional and lacking in common sense.

I've travelled all over the world, but this place really won me over. It felt like home as soon as I walked in, and it's charming and cozy. Thanks, Elias!

Such a pretty, clean hostel, and it never felt too crowded. The host was the most accommodating I've ever had. There's a bit of a climb uphill, but the view and neighbourhood are completely worth it :)

The atmosphere is really special and authentic, and it's a very charming place. Elias manages the hostel and is such a nice, attentive and helpful guy.
