Parador de las Cañadas del Teide

In February 2026 I spent a few days in room 103 at Parador de Las Cañada del Teide hotel in Tenerife. The restaurant menu was okay, though the service sometimes turned into a comedy of errors, with staff struggling with an overloaded serving cart and things falling off. The handsome cyclists from professional teams were entertaining eye candy. The room was the real problem. The air conditioning didn’t work, so it was too hot day and night. Reception told me to open the window, but a whirring fan made that impossible at night, and during the day the strong sun heated the room anyway. The bathroom outlet was blocked by a radiator, the blind stuck to the window, and the handle opened the window the wrong way. Showering turned the toilet paper into a wet, sticky mess. Three screws stuck up above a bathroom floor panel and seemed like a serious risk of injuring a foot. The wardrobe was too small even for one person, despite this being a double room. The window looked out onto a roof with technical installations, and the shower mixer worked backwards, with the handle needing to move back to turn on the water and the hot and cold positions reversed. Unlike my experience at other hotels in the chain, staying at this Parador was an ordeal. I’d recommend demolishing the building and putting up a modern hotel.

The location is central, making it easy to get anywhere on the island, and there are walks right on the doorstep. The setting is awesome. Our standard room even had a marble bathroom with two sinks. The staff were delightful from the moment we arrived until we left. Breakfast was superb, and dinner was excellent, with a wide, interesting menu. The wines were well chosen and good value.

The cable car was closed while we were there, so we couldn’t reach the summit, which was a pity. Even so, waking up in the heart of Teide National Park is a fantastic reason to stay here, and the hotel is ideally placed for seeing Mount Teide’s beauty early, before the crowds show up. Our room was comfortable and clean, and the staff were friendly and professional. Dining was a letdown: the food lacked flavor and there were very few choices for people who don’t eat meat. The path to the pool felt unsafe and needs better upkeep. Getting in and out can also be tricky because cars parked along the narrow road make two-way traffic difficult.

We had a lovely stay, mostly because of the amazing location next to Mount Teide. The hotel is a little old, but otherwise very nice. Private parking was especially handy with so many tourists visiting Roques de García, and seeing the stars from the parking lot was magical. The shower had great water pressure. There’s also a pool and sauna, although the sauna didn’t get very hot. We chose to eat in Vilaflor because I wouldn’t recommend the hotel restaurant.
