Hotel Robert

The rooms have a lovely mix of comfort and style, with beautiful decor. Staff were warm and professional, and kept going out of their way to make the stay enjoyable. The hotel itself is stunning.

I liked the comfortable bed and being able to cool the room down a lot with the air con. Those were about the only good parts of what was the worst hotel stay I’ve had on a work trip. The rooms are tiny, the curtains let light through, the sun shutter didn’t cover the whole window, and a green emergency light kept the room lit all night. I could also hear neighbours using the bathroom. When I arrived, the place was locked up and it took a lot of effort to get a key. The staff seemed annoyed I was there, and their English was extremely broken, despite what was advertised. The food was a joke. Breakfast was laid out with an empty bar even though there were no customers. One evening, the dinner choice was two greasy frozen beef burgers with undercooked white fries. On my last night, someone smashed the bar window. By breakfast the next morning, they still hadn’t cleared the glass, so shards were scattered across the floor.

I only stayed one night and it worked fine for me. Montserrat is about a 30-minute drive away. Though it has a hostel feel, the low-priced room was very clean and had its own bathroom with plenty of hot water. The single room’s twin beds were small and quite firm, which suited me but might not suit everyone. My two towels were also very thin and small.

Quiet place, clean rooms, and a lovely view from the balcony in the morning.
