Hotel Alahuar

Reception were incredibly friendly, speaking both Spanish and English, and we were very well looked after. This is a wonderful hotel for couples. We celebrated our anniversary and a birthday here, and the hotel gave us a bottle of bubbles on both occasions. In the restaurant, we’d especially recommend the paellas and the cocas.

This hotel has no access for disabled guests or anyone with limited mobility. There are no elevators or ramps, just large staircases throughout, which felt dangerous as well as inconvenient. None of this was disclosed on the hotel website or Booking.com. I booked three nights through Booking.com as a Genius Level 3 customer. The photos looked inviting and the reviews were solid, but what I found was a shocking reality check. I specifically asked for a ground-floor room at check-in because of my mobility concerns. Despite having paid in full, reception refused. When I asked Iris and Ruben at the reception desk to cancel the last two nights for medical reasons, they smirked and told me, “NOT possible and NOT refundable.” Their manner was dismissive and close to mocking. I asked for a manager, but no one was available. I only got the manager’s business card when checking out the next morning, still disgusted and angry. It was a wall of indifference. Booking.com’s so-called “concierge service” was a joke: generic replies, no action and no support. They completely failed to advocate for me as a loyal customer. I was left €374 out of pocket, with no refund, resolution or accountability. If you have mobility issues or expect basic human decency towards your disability, stay away. This place does not care.

We loved how traditional Spanish the hotel felt, and the rooms were comfortable and nicely furnished. The setting is stunning, with a beautiful view of the coast. The road up is “interesting,” to say the least. All in all, a wonderful experience for our 50th wedding anniversary.
