Camping Peña Montañesa

The food and service at the restaurant were a real disappointment. We waited 30 minutes just for drinks, and the food was overpriced. A frozen pizza cost €15, which felt outrageous for what it was. The campsite itself was crowded and noisy, with 330 pitches packed into small spaces that offered little to no privacy. Check-in was chaotic, with long queues and little organization, and the staff we dealt with weren’t especially helpful. There was dog waste across pitches and paths, which was unpleasant and unhygienic. We paid in advance for two nights, and I agree with other reviewers that this policy can make you feel obliged to stay even when the experience is poor. We were glad to leave when our stay was over.

We arrived at the start of July in the middle of a thunderstorm, so the beginning wasn’t ideal. After that, we found it to be a lovely site with great mountain views. Our large pitch was edged by hedges and easily fit our 8m caravan and car. The staff were warm and welcoming, and gave us a bottle of wine when we arrived. The surrounding area is majestic. We only had a few days here, but would come back to explore more of this part of Spain.

The noise was unacceptable, and there was no respect for the quiet hours. We were there for four nights in July, during a regional holiday, and the pitches had no privacy. The campsite is large, but everyone was packed in like sardines. The staff were helpful and friendly. Reception closed fairly early, leaving only a night guard on duty. It was delightful once the place emptied out on Sunday morning, but sadly we won’t return.

The campsite restaurant is a bit pricey, and the shop was poorly stocked, though it was May and probably hadn’t been open long. The pools were nice, but cushions on the beds would help. Showers and the other facilities were very good. We had a nice private pitch surrounded by hedges. The three-course dinner at the hotel by the entrance was tasty at €21pp, and a bottle of wine was €6. Ainsa is lovely for a stroll.
