Castillo El Collado

Great breakfasts and a fantastic room. We stayed in the "fabula" room, and the little hotel was brilliant. Xavier and douaa were welcoming, attentive hosts.

The location is lovely, and the rooftop view is beautiful. Our room had some old charm, but it was basic and on the lowest floor. I asked about another room and was told the hotel was fully booked, though I barely saw anyone around. The AC wasn’t working well, so we slept without blankets. We were only there one night, and I won’t return. We booked in mid August after reading glowing reviews about the place and Xavier, and expected the warm welcome people described. Xavier wasn’t there when we arrived. A woman came out after we rang the bell as the desk note instructed, but she seemed more like a reluctant gatekeeper than a host. There was no smile or welcome, just a flat manner. I tried small talk about the brutal 95°F heat after our long journey, but got nowhere. A smile, a few kind words, or some useful guidance would’ve helped. When I asked for restaurant recommendations, she first said, “We’re closed.” I explained I meant suggestions for other places, and she said it was hard to recommend because it depends what people want. It felt like she didn’t want to talk to us. At checkout she grabbed the key we’d left on a table and went straight back into the building without a word or even looking at me as I came up from downstairs. The restaurant was closed, too. We had to figure out how to reach the rooftop on our own, since nobody gave us any information or suggestions. It felt like we were only there to sleep. I’m glad it was just one night.

Xavier was a wonderfully friendly and welcoming host at this gorgeous, unique family-owned hotel. The historic home sits at the edge of LaGuardia town, and the bedrooms and bathrooms are beautifully decorated. Breakfast had a fantastic selection, with something for everyone. Xavier also recommended the restaurant underneath the hotel. The menu had plenty of options, the food was delicious, and the prices were very good. We liked it enough to eat there two nights in a row.

Mr. Javier was a generous, welcoming host who took the time to show us the castle tower. The view over LaGuardia and the vineyards below was unbelievable. He was also patient and encouraging as I practiced Spanish as a non-native speaker. Staying in the castle was an amazing experience. The rooms were beautiful and spacious, the beds very comfortable, and both breakfast and our dinner at the restaurant downstairs were delicious. Thank you for an unforgettable stay. I highly recommend adding this stop to your itinerary!
