We liked having the garden to sit in when the weather was good, and the quiet, leafy setting is lovely. The house itself is basic but works fine, and it was clean. For two people, the small lounge with its dining table and couch was enough. The bathroom setup is unusual: what's called two bathrooms is one room with two showers, two toilets and three hand basins, perhaps an old wash area for farmworkers. Keep in mind there's no Wi-Fi and mobile coverage is very weak and unreliable. That may suit people looking to disconnect, but it's a nuisance if you need to stay in touch with family or plan outings. It's fair for the owner not to provide internet, but guests should know beforehand. Both barbecues need a wood fire, and the kitchen only had salt, pepper and sugar. Maybe that's normal for Spanish holiday rentals, but bring everything else, including oil, milk and coffee.

The owners made us feel very welcome. Their former 15th-century Moorish mill has been turned into a home, with a stream just behind it. You hear the water and birds, and there isn't a neighbor within a kilometer. It's an amazing spot if you want real quiet. There's no Wi-Fi and cell service is poor, which suited us just fine.

I had a wonderful week here, and as an artist I found I could work and let ideas flow like never before. The house was spotless, the service was impeccable, and even after we left we were looked after so well. The setting in the middle of Alava's nature is so authentic and peaceful. From the moment you arrive, it feels like a huge bubble of calm, reconnecting you with your deepest self. The stay felt magical. It's a place for getting close to nature and having a few days of complete peace, whether you want to work, relax with family, or just do nothing. We're deeply grateful to the owners for being such commendable hosts and for their hospitality. Thank you for giving us the chance to live this dream. We'll be back.

The huge garden was great, and the house is surrounded by nature, so it worked really well for our dog. My partner and I found it had everything we needed, and we especially enjoyed using the barbecue. We'll come back.

With the river right behind the house and a big plot of land, it's a great place to disappear into nature. There's a barbecue too. No nearby houses or noise, just a 10/10 spot.
