Mountain Escape in Laroya

The mountain setting above the little hamlet of Laroya is full of grapevines, fig, quince and carob trees, along with olives, almonds, lemons and oranges. There are allotments everywhere, large and small, watered by natural spring water. A magical area for hikers, in the beautiful province of Almeria, Andalucia. This was my second visit to Reul Alto 'Hotel Casas Rurales', and I won’t wait long to return. The casitas are lovely, with pretty rooms, comfortable beds and soft linen. Ours had three bedrooms, two bathrooms with hot showers, a kitchen and lounge with a cosy fireplace. The location is stunning, with breathtaking views, and the surroundings felt beautiful and safe. I was here for a fabulous weekend Kundalini Yoga retreat run by Lakshmi Bani. We gathered each day in the lovely yoga sala for yoga, workshops and sound bath therapies. It’s a spacious, bright, heated room and a perfect venue. Full board made the days extra special: breakfast, lunch and dinner were homemade by Ramon and his daughter Loli. Ramon catered for special dietary needs in the group, using produce picked on the property or sourced locally. He also has a small shop where you can buy his homemade recipes in small or large jars. Thank you, Ramon and family, for making our stay so memorable and special x ❤️

A peaceful, beautiful place and a really nice stay. Everyone was so helpful, and the crew were such a happy bunch. I’m definitely coming back.

What an amazing place.

The location is beautiful, and the accommodation was very well maintained and met our expectations. From the moment we arrived, Ramón was kind and considerate. He was there to greet us, explained everything we needed to know, including where to park, and stayed courteous and friendly throughout. He even welcomed us with delicious homemade quince paste, a thoughtful touch that showed his hospitality. The service felt very personal and attentive, and we had a highly satisfying stay. Highly recommended.
