Occidental Las Palmas

The bed was very comfortable, something the Barcelo chain does well, and I hope the breakfast will be just as good. Still, for a couple looking for a romantic break, this isn't the hotel for us. We booked a premium suite and expected more luxury for the price, but the suite has no Canarian charm or identity. We'd stayed in a much better one on a previous visit, in a far superior location. The seating area is oddly arranged, with no view or clear purpose. It seems more suited to an extra bed in a family room, and the view and location had none of the romantic wow factor we wanted. The interior feels tiresome and drab; a picture might help, and the TV and bathroom wall socket could at least be straightened. The hotel feels in the middle of nowhere, and there's no 24-hour room service of the sort you'd expect from a 4 star hotel. A sandwich or anything after an evening uptown would have been welcome. With so little staff, the concierge service was effectively absent. It took ages just to check in our luggage so we could get on our way, though this isn't a criticism of the receptionist, who was doing their best.

The rooms are cozy, but the bathroom is split into two separate cubicles. It's a long way from the beach. The rooftop bar is nice, with a great view.

For a 4 star hotel, this was disappointing. We booked half board but only got breakfast, plus two 0.5L bottles of water for the two of us over the whole week. Loud rooftop parties in the evenings made it impossible to sleep properly. Water from the shower also leaks onto the bathroom floor, which is already damaged. The hotel isn't bad in general, but those are significant downsides.

The room was okay, but the mattress was very hard, the pools were tiny, and there was no coffee or tea setup in the room. We got only two bottles of water during our 7 day stay. Food was basic and nearly the same every day. This doesn't feel like a four star hotel, maybe 2.5 to 3 stars.
