They describe themselves as a five-star hotel, but to us a real five-star place wouldn't intimidate guests or be so incapable of dealing with problems. My wife was treated very badly by some staff, including the manager. They laughed at her and intimidated her more than once. We didn't feel even a basic sense of hospitality. The staff seemed untrained and clearly unhappy in their jobs, and they dealt with their own guests aggressively. They also claim to be eco-friendly, yet the room amenities come in small plastic containers that get replaced almost every day while still nearly full. Why not use shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel dispensers like many modern, eco-conscious hotels?

We only wanted to stop for coffee and a snack after passing this beautiful building. At the door, a woman told us in a very unfriendly tone to wait, then left us there for about ten minutes. When we politely asked again whether a table was free, she snapped in an even more aggressive tone that we needed a reservation 24 hours in advance, and then ignored us. It was shocking. It left us feeling they only care about hotel guests.

I wouldn't call this five-star, and it felt a little pricey for what it was. Still, there were some lovely things about the place, and I think the issues could be addressed. The location is great, the room was clean and nice, and the hotel had interesting decorations. But our room was noisy because of the road below, which would be hard if you're a light sleeper. The hot water was a bit unreliable too. After my shower we had to wait 10 minutes for it to warm up for my partner. Breakfast had some good bits, like fresh bread and nice cheese, but the hot dishes weren't very warm and one croissant was really stale. Parking was €15 euros per day, which I may have missed in the ad. After checkout we asked to leave the car for an hour while we had coffee, but the woman serving us said no because someone else was coming for the space. It was 11am, and with check-in at 3pm, I was dubious that anyone was arriving then. There was a language barrier, but I felt she didn't try to help or suggest another place to park. I mention it because I've seen other complaints about service. The woman who checked us in and was there during the week was great, five stars for her. The weekend staff let the team down, so I'd give service 3/5.

The cheesecake was perfecto! We really enjoyed our five nights in a top floor suite, probably the best hotel we've stayed in. It's a beautiful building with lots of artwork, in a historic area with lovely views. Museums and plenty of restaurants are close by. The staff were brilliant, friendly, and attentive. Thanks especially for arranging a dental appointment for us. Breakfast was top notch, with lots of choice and very high quality. Thanks to everyone for a great stay.
