Hotel Rural La Muralla de Ledesma

We paid about twice what we'd paid for other rural places during our four months travelling around Spain, including apartments with kitchens. I must have been exhausted when I booked, because I thought the €80 covered both nights. The booking couldn't be refunded, or I'd definitely have gone somewhere else. The old building does have charm, but our room was tiny, much smaller than the photos suggested. It was hot and had no airflow, air conditioning, or fridge. A pedestal fan helped with the stuffiness, and thankfully the second night was cooler. The downstairs dining and lounge spaces were locked except at breakfast and dinner. The outdoor area was in full sun, leaving us nowhere to sit, so we had to take our food to a public park. Very disappointing and far too expensive.

We decided at the last minute to stay in Ledesma, and I'm so glad we found this hotel. It's in a lovely old building that suits the character of this fascinating rural Spanish town, with its narrow cobbled streets, but the refurbishment is beautiful and the bathrooms are modern. The food was excellent too, with interesting dishes, well cooked and really tasty. We needed Google translate to make sense of the menu.
